TCM - Dont Let Life Break You
am an avid reader of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland’s “Faith to Faith Daily Devotional.” Just the other day I became curious as to when this book had been published, so I turned to the first page and noticed that the copyright read 1992. At that moment, I thought about how this seventeen-year-old book has been a blessing to me over the last two years.
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withered, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
In Isaiah, the Bible states that the Word of God will stand forever. The grass will wither, the flowers will fade, but the Word will always continue. Just take a few seconds and think about that. God’s Word will always exist. In Hebrews, it says that the Word is “alive” and full of power. It is active, operative, energizing, and effective (See Hebrews 4:12 Amp). It will never fail or cease to exist. In John chapter one it reads that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word has ALWAYS been, and will ALWAYS be. After I checked the copyright on the Copeland’s book, my mind began to think about the Apostle Paul. I sat and thought about how this man spent the majority of his adult life in and out of prison, but ended up writing two-thirds of the New Testament Bible. I cannot even imagine the torment this man must have went through as he sat on a cold prison floor and penned the Words of God. Some scholars believe that the Philippian jail was nothing but a big sewer and at times Paul was standing in urine and human waste that literally came up to his waist. However, if you will read the book of Philippians you will see the verses where Paul wrote, “rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say rejoice.” This is also the same book in which Paul writes, “my God shall supply all your needs.” And let us not forget about Philippians 4:13.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
If the Bible scholars are correct, (and I am sure that they are) then Paul is living proof that he could do all things through Christ. I do not know how he could have written a letter under those conditions, but he did. Paul eventually gets released from prison, but after a short time, he would find himself back in a jail cell. I will come back to Paul in a few minutes. I am in no way comparing this ministry to Paul, or King David, or even Moses but I could not stop thinking about this ministry and other ministries that minister the Word of God. If you are a minister, have you ever thought about how far and how long your ministry will go on for? Even after you are dead and gone, do you know if your work will continue? Do you think that the works you are doing right now will reach others for generations to come? I thought about my daughter and imagined her passing on this material to her children. I thought about all the lives that would be touched through God’s Word. I do not think that the Apostle Paul could have imagined the impact his letters would have on the future generations to come. Millions of lives have been changed because he was obedient to the call of God on his life. Over the past few years, I have become friends with other Pastors who reach thousands through the internet. My father reaches out into a thousand plus homes a week. I am friends with Leslie Turvey of Canada, and he reaches out to over two thousand people weekly. It has been a privilege to be in correspondence with Pastor Bill and Carol of Minnesota who have a huge internet ministry that reaches over 100,000 homes weekly all over the world. And God has touched this ministry and has allowed us to go into over 300 homes weekly. God has promised in His Word that His Word will not return void but it will accomplish what God wills and prosper wherever He sends it. I feel in my Spirit that I have a word for leaders today. I have a word for ministers of the Gospel, church leaders, prison ministers, internet writers, or anyone who is involved in some type of ministry. You may be the leader of a business or company. Whoever you are; I m speaking to you. DO NOT LET LIFE BREAK YOU!
2 Timothy 4:13 (Amp) When you come, bring the cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, also the books, especially the parchments.
The second book of Timothy was believed to be the last letter written by Paul before he was executed. Timothy was Paul’s spiritual son and as he sat on death row waiting to die, he asks Timothy to bring him three simple items: a coat, a book, and some paper. In Maximize the Moment, Bishop Jakes wrote a beautiful piece on these three items. I do not have the time to go over them in depth, but I will briefly explain the reason for two of them (the book and the paper). The first thing Paul asks for is a book. You may be thinking to yourself, why would a man on death row ask for a book? Sometimes, regardless of where we are, we must continue to move forward as best as we can with the resources we have. Are you fighting as hard as you can with the resources that have been given to you? If you must be in a situation, it is important that you make the best of it. Bishop Jakes writes in his book “Yes, Paul, the great man of faith and power, realized that although he had escaped many tragedies, he was now sitting on death row. Perhaps he had come to grips with the ages and stages of life. Perhaps he had recognized that though he had been invincible and resourceful, anointed and profoundly gifted, alas, he was still nonetheless mortal.” Bishop Jakes goes on to say - “At the risk of sounding morbid, I ask: Are we not ALL on death row? Are we not all playing one huge game of beat the clock with life?” Our hero Paul asked for a book to show you and me that even on death row we must live life to the fullest. He did not curl up in his coat until he died, but instead Paul chose to feed his mind. If we are going to move forward, we must continue to feed our minds. NEVER stop learning. However, more importantly than a coat or a book, Paul’s last request was for some paper. Why would a man getting ready to die ask for some paper? Because he was not finished talking yet. This is what I love most about the Apostle Paul; he refused to stop talking. He is telling his captors and the world, “You may be able to lock up the minister, but you cannot lock up the ministry. If you lock me up and stop me from preaching, then I am going to write letters. If you tie my hands up, then I am going to sing praises at midnight.” Paul refused to let life break him. Paul wrote letters from a jail cell. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego praised God in a fiery furnace. Even Jesus Christ Himself continued to preach from the cross. As the Roman soldiers nailed His hands and feet to a cross, Jesus continued to open His mouth and minister to a murderer hanging next to Him. Jesus hung dying on the cross, but He was not finished yet; He still had something to say. He REFUSED to let life break Him. I have a word for leaders today. DO NOT LET LIFE BREAK YOU. I know times are hard, I know the pain that you feel every single day that you wake up, but don’t let life break you. A few years ago, something tragic happened to my sister, and now she is confined to a wheelchair. My father and mother have been left with the task of taking care of her twenty-four hours a day, and it is literally killing them both. Not only are they old, but now my mother has a growth on her nose that could be malignant. As I spoke with her the other night, all she could speak about was how she wanted to live so she could finish her ministry by taking care of her daughter. Mom is not concerned about her own life, but rather the lives of all those she adores and loves. What my mother was really trying to say was that she is not finishes yet; she still has something to say. She is not going to let life break her. In closing, my heart goes out to every leader that I know and do not know. Mr. Scott Berger, I know that you are struggling in different areas, but don’t let life break you, keep fighting. Stephen King, stay faithful to those inmates that you minister to everyday, don’t let life break you. To Pastor Bill and Carol who continue to build churches for the poor in other countries, don’t let life break you. To Mr. Leslie Turvey who shares God's Word through the internet, don’t let life break you. To the love of my life and my number one supporter, Sharon, don’t let life break you. To my daughter, one day you will be reading this message, always remember that I love you and I believe in you, and regardless of what you may have to go through in life, don’t let life break you. And to everyone that faithfully reads these messages every week, DO NOT LET LIFE BREAK YOU! God Bless

Author’s Note: When I wrote this sermon in 2009, I did not know that I myself would one day actually be sitting on Death Row. This past Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at 6:03p.m. a jury of ten men and two women sentenced me to death. As the sentencing was being passed down, my stomach filled with knots as I received in this life “The Ultimate Punishment.” In the next few days, I will be shipped down to Jackson Ga. Where they house the 95 men on Georgia’s Death Row. I will live in a six by nine cell for 23 out of 24 hours in a day. I will not have much in that cell other than a bed, sink, toilet, and a desk. At this point, I do not know how I will handle the situation, but my only hope is that LIFE DOES NOT BREAK ME. I will continue to write sermons for as long as God allows me to. Other than my family, you and this ministry are all I have to live for. I will have books so that I can continue to feed my mind. A coat to keep me warm during the lonely nights. And of course, I have my greatest asset of all, the MIGHTY PEN. Even though I am sentenced to die, I will not be silenced until I go to be with the Lord. I WILL NOT LET LIFE BREAK ME ~
God Bless every one of you.
